Disadvantages of Local Backup
Though local backup is quick and easy, it also has some disadvantages. You never know when a calamity like fire or flood would happen. Such a calamity will destroy not only your computer but also the storage devices with your data backup. Also it’s not unusual that sometimes we lose memory; so you are likely to forget where you kept the pen drive, thereby losing the files.
Advantages of Remote Backup
Remote data backup is gaining wide use now due to some advantages. When your data backup is secure at a safe location away from your office you can rest assured that whatever may happen at your workplace your files are secure. Almost all big concerns go in for this method. With the advent of worldwide outsourcing, remote backup has gained popularity since the data sourced from abroad are secure at their own base in their country, while the data is used by their offshore offices.
Disadvantages of Remote Backup
The disadvantage of remote backup is data transfer speed. Remote backup may take considerable time according to the speed of the transmission devices. High speed LAN can transmit data rapidly while other devices could have their own problems due to upload limitations and firewalls.
It is advisable to utilize both the methods so that you can be sure of your data being secure despite all odds.
