Protect Your Data – and Your Business

If you don’t back up your data you are gambling with your business, plain and simple. Because prompt recovery from a loss is a necessity if you want to stay in business. What’s amazing is how many small businesses take that gamble every day. The basic choices are doing it yourself on-site and a network backup. It might seem more straightforward to do it locally, but one thing to remember is that as time goes on, the chances that a hard drive will fail keep going up – and you may not find out until you need that data. The better approach is to embrace a remote backup solution.

Approximately 93% of companies that suffered a data loss lasting 10 days or longer filed for bankruptcy within one year of the event, with about 50% filing immediately afterwards. (National Archives & Records Administration in Washington)

20% of small to medium businesses lose critical data every 5 years due to some form of disaster event. (Richmond House Group)

40% of small to medium businesses that administer their own network and use the Web for more than simply e-mail will have an unauthorized access; unfortunately, more than 50% will not even realize that their network has been breached. (Gartner Group)

According to Carbonite, an online backup service, almost 70% of information workers lose data at some point in their working lives. This may be caused by accidental deletion, computer failure, malicious viruses, or some other failure.

There’s only one way to be sure that your data is recoverably and usefully protected from loss due to accident, disaster, or malicious activity: keep it up to date at an off-site location. That means having a remote solution that connects over the Internet to a secure facility on a regular basis – after all, last week’s backups won’t cut it; to minimize loss, you need a frequent program. This is typically done automatically after close of business, and, if properly established, such a routine is just that – routine.

It doesn’t pay to gamble with your data – the heart of your business. There’s no winning that game. If you think that creating and maintaining a proper remote backup system is a hassle or an expense, try recovering from a disaster or a system failure that costs you the data you need to stay in business. The information you need to keep your business going should be safe, and it’s easy to make it so. Reach out today to one of the many Toronto IT services that specialize in remote backup systems. It’s the safest bet you can make.

If the recovery reformatted the computer while reinstalling Windows you’re out of luck. If you don’t see your data when going to My Computer and browsing your hard drives it’s gone. There are drive recovery companies but that costs hundreds to thousands of dollars so…It’s gone.
