@MrHakkinen25 Ok that’s true but most of the NAS-to-USB-Adapters out there just support the old FAT32-System and that’s simply not state-of-the-art. For myself, i will buy it just looking the best price.

This idea is ok, but not needed anymore because you have Routers with the option to install a hard drive plus Routers also have usb ports.
Iomega trying to make out of something extra you don’t need.

Hi brianglett! The management software should be installed on every client to simplify the discovery and drive mapping to the Iomega iConnect. The Iomega iConnect will also be found by Windows Rally and by Bonjour, so the management software is not a necessity. The drive letters are assigned client-by-client. Hope this answers your questions!

Does the management software need to be installed on every client in the home network? How does iConnect handle individual drive letter assignments — client-by-client basis of each pooled device, or does it create a master set that all (PC) clients must then inherit and use?

Hi eklizia. Though they are currently out of stock, Amazon Canada is carrying the Iomega iConnect. Check back with them next week, we have more inventory being shipped regularly!

    D. You can use the item on your home network with no limit. The remote access feature, powered by TZO, is free for one year. To continue to have the remote access after the first year, it does require a $5.95 annual renewal fee.

    Hi timthebeaver.
    A. No. The Iomega iConnect is fully functional by its own software and processor power. No cloud or online service is required.
    B. No. All data stays on your network. If you enable the remote access feature, then data will travel via the internet, but not through our server.

    Few questions
    A. Does this device use cloud computing like pogoplug?
    B. Will my data go through your servers?
    C. What is the level of security if the data goes through your servers?
    D. Do I need to have the subscription to keep using it or can I use it as NAS within my home and only lose the ability to access my files from anywhere over the web when I am outside the house?

Performance is greatly impacted by the particular USB device connected, and the file system running on that USB device. Some USB HDDs and Flash drives are faster than others. If you have a fast USB HDD you can achieve performance rates up to 24 MB/sec.

What the transfer rate on this on a gigabit lan? is it anything above? 20MB/sec?

Hi prkittysd1969. The product connects all those old drives into your home network, which is very green. It includes WiFi b/g/n, as well as a gigabit ethernet port and four USB 2.0 ports, so you get wired or wireless access.

Itll also turn any attached drive into a media server, supporting both DLNA and iTunes server standards, as well as sharing any printer plugged in across the network.

Home network storage with no built-in memory? Very cool. I have a bunch of random hard drives from old jobs and stuff. Green is good.
